A
weekend containing mixed fortunes for the 1st
team saw them continue their impeccable league
form but crash out of the National Knockout at
the hands of York.
Saturday's League game against Darfield was a
relative non starter as the visitors were all
back in the pavilion for 40 runs from just 13.5
overs in just under one hour. Ben Ashdown who
took the new ball in the absence of Gary Montgomery
was in devastating form taking 8 for 29 from 6.5
overs in a superb display of aggressive quick
bowling, Steve Foster (2 for 7) picked up the
other two wickets to fall.
Andy Tomlinson (21*) and Steve Foster (19*) used
just 4.5 overs to see Treeton home as they consolidated
their position at the top of the table bagging
another seven points.
Sunday was a different story as a well fought
game saw Treeton defeated by current Yorkshire
League champions York CC at Washfield Lane.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first
and it was a decision which looked in some considerable
doubt as they were struggling at 11 for 2 with
both openers removed by Steve Foster. A partnership
of 130 for the 3rd wicket though put York in a
much stronger position and some hard hitting towards
the end of the innings propelled them to 268 for
6 from their 45 overs.
Treeton lost Andy Tomlinson early but Ben Ashdown
and Steve Foster looked comfortable at the crease
as they combined in a partnership of 69 before
Ashdown was bowled for 32 and three balls later
Danny Kemp was dismissed for 0, Steve Foster (38)
shortly followed to leave Treeton struggling at
91 for 4.
Some lusty blows by Paul Fenn gave some more impetus
striking 40 (2x4's, 4x6's) at just better than
a run a ball and skipper Chris Cobb chipped in
with 32 but Treeton lost wickets at regular intervals
and no batsman was able to kick on to notch a
big score to anchor the innings. A late 23 from
Craig Beaumont proved to be in vain as the home
side were bowled out with four overs remaining
for 216.
Treeton's 2nd team travelled to Warsmworth and
it proved to be an unsuccessful journey as they
left empty handed. Warmsworth won the toss at
elected to bat and Treeton's experienced bowling
attack held the hosts to 181 for 8 wickets from
46 overs, Manny Mudhar was the pick of the bowlers
with 4 for 51.
Richard Coleman led the chase with a well played
67 at the top of the innings but George Barnes
with 37 was the only other batsman to make a score
of note as Treeton's innings fizzled out to 168
for 7 from 46 overs. |
