A Triple Weekender!

22nd June 2009

It was a successful weekend for all three senior teams with all sides recording victories making it a fantastic winning treble weekend!
The first team probably had the easiest outing of all the teams as they comfortably beat Houghton Main on their own patch by seven wickets.

The home side won the toss and elected to set score, but runs were hard to come by in the early stages but some lusty blows in the middle order contributed to Houghton posting 147 for 9 (Steve Foster 3 for 28). Frustratingly there was hardly a shot played in anger inside the last twelve overs but Treeton were unable to collect the final wicket, the home side’s No.10 batsman ending on 2 not out from a whopping 36 deliveries! (The point in defending deliveries inside these last 12 overs was.......?? Answers on a postcard please!!!)

However, the win was the priority and it came courtesy of a magnificently played century from Andy Tomlinson, his fourth of the season as he was unbeaten on 111 not out from 96 balls (15x4’s, 2x6’s) as the firsts reached 150 for the loss of just three wickets.

The 2nd XI made easy work of seeing off Sheffield United’s 2nd XI at Washfield Lane as they chased down 170 in less than 30 overs.
Skipper Mick Fairman won the toss and elected to bowl first and George Barnes (4 for 39) led the attack well as Treeton restricted the visitors to 170 all out, Matt Haddock also grabbing 3 for 47.

Rich Coleman (66*) and Phil Barnes (86*) made light work of the run chase though as the duo guided Treeton to 172 for 9 to leave them in fourth place and in contention for a promotion place as the half way mark in the season is almost upon us.

Richard Hammerton’s 3rd team successfully overcame local rivals Wickersley relatively comfortably. The Treeton bowlers had the visitors back in the pavilion for 133 all out, youngsters Danny Tinkler (3 for 18) and Matt Eastwood (2 for 36) were the pick of the bowlers.

Treeton then reached 134 for the loss of five wickets in 40.5 overs, with Stuart Richards top scoring with 34 and Danny Gilbank 26 not out.
