Treeton’s
first team got back to winning ways despite the
awful weather in the build up to the game against
Wath at Washfield Lane.
In
a match reduced to 35 overs per side Treeton skipper
Chris Cobb lost the toss and was invited to bat
first on a very damp wicket. A decision which
the Wath skipper would have been scratching his
head at as Andy Tomlinson and Steve Foster put
on 145 for the first wicket before Tommo fell
for 82. The top order came and went in pursuit
of quick runs but Fozzie stroked his way to 76
before he fell to a good catch on the deep midwicket
boundary and Dave Burden helped to raise Treeton
to 200 for 7 from 35 overs.
The
visitors never looked up for the chase though
and they found runs hard to come by up against
the tight bowling from the Treeton lads and they
could only reach 91 for 7 from 35 overs, Steve
Foster and Gary Montgomery both picking up two
wickets each.
The
1sts extended their lead at the top of the table
to seven points after Hallam were rained off against
Phoenix. A tough fortnight is in store though
with Elsecar the visitors to Washfield Lane next
followed by a trip away to Hallam the following
weekend.
