Treeton’s
1st XI made light work of seeing off the current
league champions Elsecar at Washfield Lane.
Captain
Cobb won the toss and and true to form elected
to field first and he would’ve been happy
with his teams efforts at the interval after his
team restricted Elsecar to 206 for 5 from their
50 overs. Ben Ashdown was the pick of the bowlers
taking 2 for 29, with Gary Montgomery, Dave Burden
and Steve Foster all picking up a wicket apiece
with a special mention for Fozzie for ending up
with figures of 10 overs, 6 maidens, 5 runs and
1 wicket!
Andy
Tomlinson and Steve Foster then made light work
of the Elsecar total as they shared in an opening
stand of 195 for the first wicket before Tommo
was adjudged LBW for 87, but Fozzie stayed to
the end to see Treeton home with an unbeaten 114
to help his team record a nine wicket win.
With
Hallam collecting seven points against third place
Wath, that meant Treeton stand just five points
clear at the top of the Premier Division and in
an all important fixture they face Hallam next
away on 1st August which will go a long way to
deciding who has the capabilities to go on to
win the title.
The
second team were also victorious against their
promotion chasing rivals Wath at Moor Road in
a game which saw the return to action of the club’s
overseas player Himesh Silva who was playing to
prove his fitness.
Stand
in skipper Manny Mudhar invited Wath to bat first
and Himesh was the pick of the bowlers as he returned
with 3 for 48 from 14 overs as the hosts set 167
for 8 from 46 overs, Manny Mudhar also picking
up two wickets.
Two
senior men Richard Coleman (46) and Dave Morris
(39) were the main contributors for Treeton but
they left it late by gaining victory off the last
ball of the innings to pick up a five point win
and maintain fourth place in the table leaving
them just outside the promotion places.
The
third team were rained off against High Green
Village with no play possible.
