Treeton’s
first team secured another victory at the hands
of second from bottom Darfield and in doing so
captured the Premier Division title with two games
still remaining in the season.
Treeton
eased to victory after they invited Darfield to
bat first and they had the home
side in tatters as Gary Montgomery was in fine
form with the new ball as he returned with his
best bowling figures of the season grabbing 8
for 17 from 10.3 overs with Ben Ashdown picking
up the remaining two wickets to dismiss Darfield
for a meagre 56 and stand in stumper Stuart Guy
snaffled four catches behind the stumps in the
absence of regular keeper Paul Fenn.
Ashdown
then led the way with the bat as he stroked 33
not out to guide Treeton to victory and trigger
the Champagne celebrations! Treeton can still
set a new record for the most number of points
gained in a season which currently stands at 121
so require a further six points to top this tally
from their remaining two fixtures.
Sunday
saw the first team compete in the Semi Final of
the Yorkshire Council Play Off Semi Finals against
Central Yorkshire League side Methley who were
convincingly blown away.
Fielding
first at Washfield Lane Treeton restricted the
visitors to a competitive 260 for 5 from their
45 overs as former Yorkshire player Victor Craven
struck 102 not out.
But
Treeton then had little trouble knocking off the
runs thanks largely to a magnificent aggressive
knock from Ben Ashdown of 92 from just 38 deliveries
as he took the attack to the Methley bowlers by
dispatching them to all parts to set up the win
for Treeton, he was ably assisted by Andy Tomlinson
who contributed 72. Treeton reached the target
for the loss of four wickets and in using just
36 overs!
Treeton
now progress to the final of the competition against
Central Yorkshire League side Townville to be
played at Ackworth CC on Sunday 6th September
with a 12pm start.
Treeton’s
2nd team were not as fortunate as their first
XI counterparts as they went down to defeat at
the hands of fellow promotion hopefuls Warmsworth
at Washfield Lane.
Batting
first the 2nd XI made a respectable 200 for 8
(George Barnes 56, Ryan Hardy 42). But Warmsworth
proved to have little trouble in reaching their
target with a couple of overs to spare and for
the loss of just two wickets.
Treeton’s
3rd XI suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of
Totley, where the home side piled on a whopping
385 all out (Adam Trow 4 for 74) including putting
on 243 runs for the first wicket! A thankless
task which proved well out of reach for Treeton
as they could only manage just 103 all out.
