6th October 2009
On Saturday 17th October, participants of the 27th ‘Rowbotham Round Rotherham Trail Race’ organised by the Rotherham Harriers, will be passing through Treeton village on a grueling trail which sees runners and their teams covering in total more than 50 miles during the day.
The annual event contested amongst individuals (walkers and runners) and relay teams of runners covers all kinds of different terrain with an ascent of approximately 800 metres over the 80km trail and the event is named after Ralph Rowbotham.
Racing starts at Dearne Valley College, Manvers at 6am for walkers and 7am for runners and can be participated in for a variety of reasons by entrants including fund raising or just pure enjoyment (if enjoyment can be had at covering such a distance!). The event has been won in the past a record three times by both Chris Parkes and Jon Whithead.
For anybody who is interested in providing support for participants then the first runners should reach Treeton Cricket Club where there will be a checkpoint setup with refreshments at approximately 09.00am as they prepare for the treck upto Harthill.
